Sound Stutters since yesterday..Help me Dudes I need Music!.

Omg Folks.

This is the worst thing yet.

I use the excellent VLC media player to play tunes which was great until now.
Also I tried Amarok and that stutters too.

About every 3 mins my sound pauses hence I cannot play Music.

Help me dudes pleaaaase.

Music is my life!!.
The pc is my life support machine.

I think my sound is Alsa.

The obvious question: What did you do yesterday? Update? If so - _what_ was updated?

Re: Sound Stutters since yesterday..Help me Dudes I need Music!.

could be related to the /etc/modprobe.d change.  if you've got anything like sound.pacsave in that directory, try cp'ing it to sound.conf and rebooting.  if you're really as desperate as all that double-punctuation makes you seem then you could always try oss.  our wiki's easy to follow and i'm a happy oss convert myself.

Nope sound.pacsave not in /etc/modprobe.d

I used to use pulse on Ubuntu but it was a pain.

I might try OSS unless anyone has another idea.

I like Alsa if I can solve this.

Re: Sound Stutters since yesterday..Help me Dudes I need Music!.

I've seen here on the forum users complaining that something alsa related broke after a kernel update 2.6.28->2.6.29: something breaks, seems to be the case yet again.

If OSS works for you I think you will like it too big_smile

Re: Sound Stutters since yesterday..Help me Dudes I need Music!.

I have this same problem after updating the kernel yesterday.

Alsa will not work.

dio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: No such file or directory
[AO_ALSA] alsa-lib: pcm_hw.c:1325:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC1D1p failed: No such file or directory
[AO_ALSA] alsa-lib: pcm_dmix.c:1008:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
[AO_ALSA] Playback open error: No such file or directory
[JACK] cannot open server

I also noticed my hard drives were lettered differently in /dev

/dev/sdd1 became /dev/sdc1 and /dev/sdc became /dev/sdb....

this was not good for my raid configuration!

Re: Sound Stutters since yesterday..Help me Dudes I need Music!.

There's a howto set up pulseaudio on the wiki, I might give that a go.

Has anyone got pulse?, is Pulseaudio meant to be better than OSS.

Maybe it's a bug which will get fixed soon. Should I be reporting this as a bug?.

Re named hard drives?...that's not Cricket!. I better check mine.
Well my external hdd seems to have an extended partition that I never noticed before, apart from that it's the same numbering.

Just noticed something with the sound,
Here's what I think might be doing it.....
There's a new process showing up in Conky called mixer_applet2.

Can I got to a directory and edit some file to stop it running?.
