partitioning hard drive

Good daytime to you!
I have an external harddrive, where i want to put grub and several linux systems. trouble is - there is already seeral parttions with data in them.

i'm sure there is a way, but i just couldn't yet fint - is there a way to edit an old partition size fo create a new ones. (currently there is 2 ntfs partitions)

Worst case scenario - I can copy all those files on my pc, and completely reformat the bast***d, but that would be too easy... and long

Re: partitioning hard drive

Hexorg,

You can use gparted (pacman -S gparted) to repartition your drive without loosing the actual contents.

Re: partitioning hard drive

but ... the usual reminder when working with sensitive things like partition tables ... backup your data first. ;-)

Re: partitioning hard drive

Also, in my experience, resizing partitions is a long, slow process, depending on how full they are. Also, you definitely want to do the backup since I've had USB connections randomly die during precisely the actual move process (actual because it runs a simulation/test first).

Re: partitioning hard drive

By that post, I meant to say, if I were you, I might actually consider just copying data, reformatting and repartitioning, and then restoring data.
