libreadline snafu

Hello All,

I maintain a server remotely and while installing pidgin, I think i broke bash. I cannot remotely login anymore to my box and here's what I get

-bash: error while loading shared libraries: libreadline.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

after which my connection terminates.
is there a way I can remotely fix this or do I need to physically console in to fix this

thank you

Re: libreadline snafu

It seems readline got updated to version 6.0 while bash didn't get updated to 4.0. You'll have to use a live cd at the server to either upgrade to bash 4.0 or downgrade readline to 5.x (the former being the proper route). Or change your login shell temporarily, but for all of this you'd need to be able to log in... so I guess physical access is required.

Re: libreadline snafu

cool, thanks for the response. I wonder if there's any way to have SSH force login to another shell

Re: libreadline snafu

I think you must do a total pacman -Syu, not just for the bash smile
