After the update to Firefox 3.5 the browser is actually not starting up any more. On the process list I always can see a very busy mplayer which is not supposed to be there anyway and after terminating mplayer Firerfox continues the start up process and works normally afterwards.
I tries with Opera and it is just the same.
Somewhat confusing is that on another computer with very similar software the whole trouble doesn't happen.
I removed mplayer plugin and de-activated any Mplayer plugin in Firefox, without success. I also re-installed Mplayer, but no change.
Any ideas???

Try installing gecko-mediaplayer, it uses gnome-mplayer which, ironically has no dependencies on anything that has to do with gnome, to play embedded video. Works like a charm for me.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Just installing the gecko-mediaplayer didn't help.
Naturally after removing Mplayer as well as all depending programs there is no more problem. Afterwards I intsalled the gecko-mediaplayer again with Mplayer and Gnome-Mplayer as dependencies and the problem is gone. I truly miss the logical connection here, as the only difference to before is no more installed SMplayer.
Anyway it works!
On other computer I already updated Firefox 3.5 on I686 by a regular pacman -Syu.
