I would like to learn about ncurses, but I have no idea where to start. I've done a little asm, c++, and java, but never really did anything with them.
I'm just wondering where to start, or if ncurses was even worth it.
I need to find a way out so everyone can find their way out.

Aw, djgera beat me to posting it. That was my first thought when I read the very first post, but when I read the response, you ruined my hopes of posting it. :[ Shame.
I'll just slap on a recommendation saying that it is a great guide, ncurses is a lot of fun to play around with and very easy (you'll see), and after my friends and I learned how to use ncruses.h, we decided to write our own version of NetHack and other little games, so it would be a great programming exercise for you to do that afterward also if you wanted practice (just a little recommendation).
Good luck!

On that note, here's a short example on making a Roguelike with ncurses: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2007/11/29/5715/1869

Iirc, the man page itself provides a thorough intro.

my first foray into ncurses was vadorz.. I think Ghost put it in the AUR so you can check it out if you'd like.
