[solved] - Gnome network manager applet

Hello all, just got some new harware and installed arch on it as well, however, no network icon in the taskbar.
Installed gnome, gnome-extra, gnome-network-manager, and some other and still no icon yet.
Also no restart, poweroff buttons in the menu?

I don't remember doing anything extra last time I installed it on my leptop...:/

Am I missing something?

Re: [solved] - Gnome network manager applet

Did you meant to install network manager and install network-manager-applet?

Of course, the appropriate network daemon needs to be running.

Re: [solved] - Gnome network manager applet

yes,
I disabled network and added networkmanager in the rc.conf under deamons, thats what I have on my laptop.
Is this wrong or is there something else needed?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Re: [solved] - Gnome network manager applet

Hmm. I didn't know they were the same package.

Anyway, run nm-applet from the terminal and see what happens yikes

Re: [solved] - Gnome network manager applet

I'm not sure, there are about 4 different packages, some are no longer used I guess...
Anyway, I ran the nm-applet and here is the problem

libnotify-Message: Unable to get session bus: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application d$

(nm-applet:4193): libnotify-CRITICAL **: notify_get_server_caps: assertion `proxy != NULL' failed
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking $

In rc.conf I have it setup for dhcp and I have network working from what I can see...

I tried edding dbus to deamons but that did not help...

Re: [solved] - Gnome network manager applet

EDIT: Oops. Didn't notice your last sentence there.

Is dbus running? Are you in the network group?

Perhaps even hal but that shouldn't be necessary I don't think..

Those are the first two things popping out at me from looking at that output.

Also, you might check:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Net … Kit_issues

Also, I'm assuming by saying you have that in rc.conf that you've rebooted since adding them or manually started those services..

I think networkmanager had to be started *after* hal and dbus for that matter (dont background them with @ in rc.conf till you know stuff works..)..

Yep rebooted a few times, only have sshd and alsa b.grounded, I think that is non related hmm

I will check the link and give it another shot in the morning, getting kind of late here.

Thanks for your help Mr. Fox!
