Can't burn DVD

I'm trying to burn an ISO to a dvd but I have had no luck.  I've tried to use k3b from the repos and I've got 2 coasters from that.  Then I tried using wodim from the command line, and it stopped in much the same way k3b did.  For whatever reason, both stop burning the ISO at 16mb.  Any idea what the problem could be?

[nelson@alpha-pc Downloads]$ wodim -v dev=/dev/sr0 speed=4 7100.0.090421-1700_x64fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culxfrer_en_dvd.iso

I know it's a lot to look through, but this is frustrating.

Re: Can't burn DVD

You may try a simple:

growisofs -Z /dev/sr0=file.iso

"I'm Winston Wolfe. I solve problems."

Re: Can't burn DVD

I tried growisofs and it seemed to burn the CD, but the CD wouldn't boot.  Not sure if it didn't burn or if something is wrong with the ISO.  I'm just going to have a friend at work do it for me.  Luckily I don't burn DVD iso's very often (the burner seems to work fine when I'm burning CDs.)

Re: Can't burn DVD

That's weird, since I have never had problems with the burning utilities, so I don't have any clues what else could be wrong. I just remember some problems with one of the beta release of the latest K3B for KDE4, but no problems with the same system but using Brasero in GNOME.

Re: Can't burn DVD

K3B has stopped detecting any CD/DVD drives at all and its so from last 1.5 months. OTOH, I never had any problems with growisofs and cdrecord.

Both k3b and growisofs found your burner obviously.
That leads me to believe your burner may need cleaning or your  burner itself may not like the brand of dvd's you're attempting to burn to.
If you have a few dvd's lying about with maybe a movie or something on one, try playing it and see what happens.

Re: Can't burn DVD

I had a similar problem with brasero! I got always the message "no rewritable media found", though all settings were correct.

So I did:  pacman -Rs brasero (deinstall brasero)
I installed gnomebaker: pacman -S gnomebaker

With gnomebaker all went well!

I suppose brasero and other burning tools are messed up!

Greetings Johannes
