openssl problems since upgrade to openssl-0.9.8k [SOLVED]

Since updating openSSL to version 0.9.8k-2 I have been experiencing a number of communication issues:

1) gyachi (v 1.1.71 & 1.2.1) unable to authenticate with yahoo, error message indicates no client certificate

2) openfire XMPP server - unable to authenticate using ssl/tls, works with insecure connection

3) NFS authentication failures between archlinux on server and desktop when connection from laptop running debian lenny
