Ubuntu equivalent of 'fan' module?

I know that maybe I ought to be posting this in the ubuntu forums but people there are rarely as helpful as Archers.... smile

Switching to Arch taught me a simple hack for solving an annoying ACPI issue, namely that the fan stop and everything overheats. The hack-trick was simply to unload the fan module and then reload it which would start the fan up again. Put in a crontab and that was it.

Now I'm trying to set up an Ubuntu install on my test partition and trying to set up the same hack for that install. Only, lsmod doesn't show a 'fan' module despite ACPI being in use and otherwise working.

So my simple question is: Can anybody here tell me how to replicate this  - modprobe -r fan && modprobe fan - on an Ubuntu install?

You're right - you should ask in the ubuntu forum. Somebody may answer you here, but IMO you're showing disrespect for both communities by doing this.

+1

Why do you think we understand the error of Ubuntu, in a simple situation like this? If you enjoy arch why don't you use that?
