I am just looking for a suggestion of a game I can play multiplayer online that will run either native or via Wine, etc... I have played Quake for years, tried Warsow, enjoyed ET for a bit but it has the worst hitbox/aiming thing going on (seems to reward terrible aim, or shooting away from the players). I am wondering what you guys play online?

My suggestion is World of Padman or UT2004 if you manage to buy it somewhere, it runs fine on Arch

Nexuiz (Quake-like game, opensource) or True Combat: Elite. (very realistic modern warfare). TC:E is ET mod, but project is a bit oudated and not developed anymore, servers are still running and players exists, though. However, some people are trying to remake TC:E-like game, such as Code 43: Urban Warfare.
Urban Terror is also superior.

Thanks a lot, I just installed Urban Terror and ran through a couple maps to get a feel, it's great. However when I go to get a list of servers, and hit Get New List, I don't get anything. In console it's just giving me: "Requesting servers from the master..."

I find that sometimes fetching the server list just sometimes "decides" not to work at times in ioquake3-based games. Try exiting/restarting(of course, also make sure you have "Source" set to Internet, too...just saying).
There's also OpenArena and the [not-as-alive-as-I'd-like] Tremulous.

Hmm, well it's not working at all unfortunately, I've tried several times and yep got it looking from the net. I just use XQF instead, no biggie. Nice game!

+1 for Urban Terror. Been getting into Quake Wars lately. Good game. I know you're probably looking for free games but I was able to pick it up at newegg for $7 so almost free .

Naw, I'll pay if it's gonna be enjoyable. I actually did buy Quake Wars a long time ago and just searched for the CD now that I read your post, found it and just reinstalled, I had forgotten about it completely lol. Fun game! Thx

Quake Live should be available for Linux soon. I'm waiting eagerly for that
