opensource TV watching application

Before i write one for testing, is there an opensource application that has channels to watch some internet streams? Or streams that I stream?

Basically an application that has channels attached to streams and that you can change from one to the other on the fly.

I've looked a fair bit but have found nothing.

Thanks
Brendan

Re: opensource TV watching application

Thanks, but I should probably explain what i want some more :

I want basically a TV like interface like tvtime but instead of using a TV receiver i want to be able to input streams.

So basically i want to be able to map channel 1 to an IP stream, channel 2 to another and skip between channels.

Re: opensource TV watching application

That sounds like a great project! I bet you have heard of sopcast and veetle and so on - you plan on adding different protocolls, too?

Re: opensource TV watching application

The project really is a technological demo and so will only feature one protocol (well at least i'll only test one...) etc... however it will be opensource so you can do what you want with it later. If i'm really happy with it I might take it further and release it as a simple TV viewing application but thats not my initial concern

Thanks for your two links I'd heard of sopcast but veetle looks good, I'll have to investigate when i get home.

Re: opensource TV watching application

Hi brendan,

I think I understand what you are looking for, but I don't know of an application that does exactly this. A poor man's solution could be to use VLC and put several video streams on the playlist. Switching from one "station" to another would then mean to double click on the desired playlist entry.

Kind regards,
jamesbond007.

Re: opensource TV watching application

not a bad idea, can you put shortcuts for playlist up and down and do these work in fullscreen mode?

I'll have to research it. cvlc runs without a gui so it might actualy work.

Feel free to suggest more ideas though
