That's what I was suggesting - blobk the IPs from the server side - I'll also do some lookups and see if I can find their provider, and report them.

That's interesting... I get alot of random attacks, just general ones, like M$ server exploits (good thing we got apache :twisted: ), and a lot of attempted ssh logins from chinese IP's....

Its now 24 hours and no spamming. Three IPs have been blocked. The first two IPs were bad.

I'd like to request a hardcore programming guide for using vim - personally I'm decent with it but have never used vim for programming too much, yet I would like to. I use win32 vim at work for python scripting... but that's about it.
If anyone is really good and could explain how plugin loading works, ftplugins, and vim scripting in a overview, that'd be awesome.

I don't think that can be covered in a wiki, vim is HUGE. There are some good sites for vim though; google.

im just looking for better info on vim scripting, vimrc settings, functions, indent, blah blah blah - key commands I'm fine with

That's my point, that kind of stuff is a little more in depth and un-arch-related than what goes in the wiki. I think there must be info on that kind of stuff on google. Or

actually it's hard to find vim scripting info - theres alot of example scripts.... but hard to find info, like the order plugins are loaded in, function declarations (function vs function!), ftplugins, blah blah blah - I'll google it...

A wiki on taking the most basic/important steps to improve security would be useful. Iptables configuration maybe.

I would like to see a wiki on the proper ways to, or etiquette on, submitting packages to the incoming register. I realize there is some documentation in the user forums, but I feel that this is incomplete. Ideally, I would like the guide to start out assuming the reader has a working package and describe

· what files to submit to the register
· how to prepare these files for submission --- tar.gz or tar.bz2, naming conventions, ...
· how to submit the files --- ftp commands to run, how to log into the server, commands to submit the files in ftp, ...
· the proper etiquette on posting to the New and Requested Packages notifying the Arch community of the new package

The ability for users to easily submit new and updated packages is, I believe, one of the strengths of Arch Linux. This is why I feel that this topic deserves a wiki page. Unfortuneately, I do not feel qualified to write such a page, because I am unsure of the proper procedures.

Interesting...
Zeno's paradox had a similar issue. If you hold your two hands apart, and then half the distance, and the half the distance again..ad infinitum...since you are always halving, your hands will never meet...
but...they do!

i think it was einstein that proved that space and time are only related relativistically...and at quantum size things get really screwey...

Actually, this has kind of been purposefully left undocumented for the past few months because everything is up in the air surrounding package submittal. There are no rules at the moment!

It should eventually all be done through an integrated web interface and voting system that is currently being actively developed. Final release date: unknown.

misunderstanding surrounding mathematics.

number of values is always infinity. This assumption is false because
1/2+1/4+1/8+1/16+...=1

The Banach-Tarski "Paradox" --- it is really a theorem with a counter intuitive result --- rests
on the Axiom of Choice.

Anyway, don't want to flood this topic with irrevalent stuff, despite it being really interesting.

you mean 1 - 1/2 - 1/4 - 1/8 - ... =0

and 2 + 2 =5 for very large values of 2..
