I am in the live CD and I am having a problem with my wireless. I have never used wireless (at all) before so forgive me if I sound blunt (apparently my wireless card works "out of the box". Intel 5300).
I followed the instructions from the beginners guide:
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 essid "xxxxx"
dhcpcd wlan0
That ends up timing out ("wlan0: timed out"). I just plugged in an ethernet cord and changed to eth0, which works fine, so I could install that way, but I wish to figure this out because you don't learn/get better if you take the easy way out all the time.

You've read the Wireless Setup wiki page, I presume?

There's little point in mucking around with wireless during the installation phase - especially if you haven't configured wireless connections on linux before.
Continue what you started - install over a wired connection, once you get it all up and running, read up and set up the wireless connection. As tomk suggests, you may have some further reading ahead.
Good luck.
