I am using XFCE desktop
When I put pendrive the icon shows on the desktop
But after transfering files and then want to unmount. I do by right click and unmount. But the icon still remains.
How to ensure that the icon goes away after I do unmount
Regards
Simha

Does the icon go away if you physically remove the pendrive after unmounting it?

And what is the output of the mount command when you unmount a pendrive from the xfce desktop?
"I'm Winston Wolfe. I solve problems."

Yes the icon goes away when I remove the pendrive

AFAIK this is a feature, the device unmounts, but the icon stays there to let you remount it again. I think that when it is busy it gives a warning message telling you not to remove it.

SO if I just remove and the Icon goes away then I can assume that the pendrive was mounted properly.
The data transferred to pendrive doesnt have any problem

You should still use unmount before removing it, but the icon will not disappear when the device is unmounted. However if it is not safe to remove and you try to unmount a message will be displayed saying that it is not safe to to remove the drive, when this message disappears it should be safe to remove.
I'm not 100% on this though, its been a while since I've used XFCE. Can someone confirm this?

I can 100% confirm that after unmounting the pendrive, the icon remains (in my case it is in the thunar side bar, and it is slightly greyed-out), but the pendrive is safe to remove (after you got the message of course).
Some applications are WYSIWYG, and some are WYSIWTF.
