I'm using an ATI Radeon 7000 on my PC. I want to know if there are any proprietary drivers for it, because the driver I'm actually using (xf86-video-ati) has a poor performance.
I've been googling and I've found that actual Catalyst version does not support my card, but there's some old version that works. Does anyone know where can I get it? Will it work with my current kernel (2.6.30)?
Thanks.

Even if there's still a proprietary version that supports your card, chances are you'll have to downgrade your kernel. The chance the driver builds against a recent kernel is virtually zero.

Very bad
A <2.6.29 kernel won't work good with my Atheros card.

You can try with the 2.6.29 kernel, see if you can build against it... Maybe some of the more conservative distros (Debian?) have some patches around.

You can also expect to find a few nasty bugs with the proprietary drivers ... I guess most people here already had some kind of problem with those drivers.
