I need to compile something against gcc-4.2; mdk3 in fact. I haven't found a patch to compile it against 4.4, and I'm not skilled enough to patch it myself. So I was wondering what would be the best way to install gcc-4.2 and cpp-4.2 and any other dependencies I might need.

You can use this (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gcc-s … t/PKGBUILD) PKGBUILD as an example of how to build another gcc version that runs alongside the main gcc.

Thanks man! I used the pkgbuild to install a snapshot of 4.2; which only required me to patch a little bit of the code by hand in MDK. But this site is awesome, I'm bookmarking it.
