Sound card isn't working...

I've got a SoundBlaster Audigy and onboard motherboard sound.  I had my 5.1 speakers hooked up to the soundblaster card and my headset to the motherboard sound.  I got sound only out of the headset.  I unhooked that and get no sound.  Is there a way to get my music and all to play through my 5.1 speakers on my sound card instead of my headset on the motherboard sound?

unplug your headset first and run alsaconf? i think there's a wrong preference which sets your headset as first audio device

Re: Sound card isn't working...

I've tried that.  Unplugged the headset out of the motherboard sound ports and ran alsaconf.  I select my sound card's model, CA06 or something Creative Labs Sound Card.  Run through the setup and nothing.  Do I need to reboot after that or what?

How do I know if the channels are muted?  Will they have 'MM' or '00" on them?

Re: Sound card isn't working...

I switched my speakers over to the onboard sound card (motherboard) and it's working.  But now I don't have a headset for Skype.  What I wanted to do was this:

5.1 Speakers > SoundBlaster Audigy Sound Card - all sounds play from this

Headset + Mic > Onboard Motherboard Sound - only voice from Skype and other talking services from this
