Ok, well, I'm running a fresh install of Arch with Firefox and Java. However, when I visit a site with an applet, it freezes after around 5 minutes. I then have to physically reboot to get back in. Here are some of the package and system specs:
Packages
Xorg 6.8.1
Firefox .10
Java 1.5
Hardware
Pentium 2 450 MHz
384 MB RAM
Please help me, I really want to use some of the new Java stuff.

However, when I visit a site with an applet, it freezes after around 5 minutes.
Does this mean the applet works for about 5 minutes and then freezes, or that it takes about 5 minutes for the applet to load, and once loaded it freezes?
Does it happen with all applets, or just some sites in particular?

It works for 5 minutes, and then it freezes. This affects all applets.

UPDATE: This is also a problem for flash

Sounds like a firefox plugin problem then; did you happen to have this trouble with firefox 0.9?
If you run firefox from a terminal, does it give any output when it crashes?

Well, since it crashes the whole computer, I ran mozilla-firefox >> firelog and found no error output when it crashed. Very interesting...

ah, forgot about the crashing. The command you entered won't save standard error input though, and if the computer is crashing, it *may* not close(save) the file anyway.
try
mozilla-firefox 2>&1 >>firefox-errors
Also, is it really freezing up the X-server completely? ctrl-alt-BackSpace doesn't recover it and ctrl-alt-F1 doesn't take you to a console??

nope, nothing. and yes, it freezes the entire comp. no ctrl-alt-backspace or anything, it just stops. then i reboot.

Start it in a terminal and log everything to a file?
Edit: perhaps I should read posts more than one above me... read this earlier today but skipped Dusty's responce. Sorry about that.
