restart dbus daemon kills X

As title says, when I enter

# /etc/rc.d/dbus restart

X dies. Instantly. Everytime. I think this is a pretty rare bug. Only 3 other incidents on google.

Re: restart dbus daemon kills X

Hmm. I do start hal in daemons. Doesn't hal just automatically start dbus? When you try to restart any daemon other than dbus that isn't started, does X crash as well?

Re: restart dbus daemon kills X

Hello
I compile evrything myself and in PKGBUILD of xorg-server (from ABS tree) i found this option:

--enable-config-dbus

I think that's why X dies after restart Dbus wink

Re: restart dbus daemon kills X

So all I have to do is disable it? How do I do that? Will I have to reinstall xorg-server?

Re: restart dbus daemon kills X

You have to have xorg-server PKGBUILD (one from abs) and makepkg installed and   , if I remeber pkg-config just disable it in PKGBUILD and build xorg-server and install/upgrade it via Pacman wink

Re: restart dbus daemon kills X

Look at it from a different angle e.g. why are you restarting dbus? I never have to do that.

Re: restart dbus daemon kills X

Because I can't hotplug my ntfs removable drives, and I can't unmount my internal NTFS drives via fstab. I've tried all the wiki tips on HAL and all don't work. But most end with restarting dbus, etc. And the situation is worsened by my xorg server hanging when I logout. So it's not just x crashing when I restart dbus, but it's a complete restart.

Does this disable hotplugging?

Re: restart dbus daemon kills X

Don't restart DBus ... you can use "/etc/rc.d/dbus reload" for it to read it's config files .. otherwise you never need to restart it.

You need to find another sollution for your problem with the ntfs drives (at least you can  try restarting HAL).

Re: restart dbus daemon kills X

I've restarted HAL plenty of times. It doesn't work. It's driving me up the wall.
