Installation under VirtualBox

Hi,
I've gone through a new ach linux system setup, but this time under VirtualBox. While the setup completed smoothly and the full system upgrade (using 'pacman -Syu') as well, the system refused to reach the login screen(after I made a restart) and keeps making reboots, that I can't even figure what went wrong... roll
what might be the problem ??!!

I'm sorry but your problem is not quite clear for me, so I cannot send you any helpful advice.

Re: Installation under VirtualBox

After you restart it, what exactly happens?

gods are fragile things.  They may be dismissed with a dose of common sense or a whiff of science.

[quota]"After you restart it, what exactly happens?"[/quota] - > [quota]"the system refused to reach the login screen(after I made a restart) and keeps making reboot"[\quota]

He said that.

If you run your system in 3 run-level, instead of 5 without X, is it okay ? Btw, is there anything in the syslog ? Can you see any error messages while booting ?

Which driver/kernel do you use ?

Re: Installation under VirtualBox

Thank you very much for the replies ... I'm sorry I've been away for some time ..
It's just as what 'gjszapi' has said ... I can't even reach the login screen ...
and the system runs in run-level 3,  it's still a fresh install ... only updated.

I checked  'boot' and 'boostrap.log' .. nothing in 'em.
'kern.log' and 'dmesg' .. nothing intersting.
'syslog'  and 'daemon.log' give the following warning :

Jul 25 01:42:35 sidux console-kit-daemon[2659]: WARNING: Couldn't read /proc/2658/environ: Failed to open file '/proc/2658/environ': No such file or directory

??!!

Oh, one more thing... the restart  happens [when (or) soon after] loading 'udev' ..
any clue ?

thanks in advance ..

Re: Installation under VirtualBox

Did you try reinstall some of related packages, like udev ? Or downgrade it, or use your backup wink

Re: Installation under VirtualBox

mmm... no I didn't.. should I ?
besides, I have bad memories about messing with individual packages... they caused me a lot of troubles...
I've even found some warnings here in the forum no to do so ...

It's the penalty of using rolling release distros having up to date packages   .. nothing made by man is perfect. smile
