[Proven => NO SOLUTION KNOWN!] Install Catalyst 9.7 on mobility X2300

Hi again, since i didn't want to start a new thread, I posted the changed version here:

Just about an hour ago I saw that a new Catalyst 9.7 is surprisingly available for my mobility Radeon X2300 too (according to their release notes .PDF). So I consider to switch to it, in oder to fix my situation, BUT:

according to AUR-messages for this newest Catalyst, there are some patches needed (as for 9.6)?!
Well, I have never used the 9.6, so can someone tell me what patches do I need for 9.7? I run x86_64.

Threre is also a home-made repo:

Catalyst 9.7 added to my repo (x86_64 only). Feel free to use it if you want:
    [apps4u]
    Server = http://pkg.dot.customix.org/x86_64

Did Someone use it? Is it already patched?

So I just tried to install this 9.7-thingie usual way (yaourt - AUR):
Afterwards I've got following message for aticonfig:

aticonfig: No supported adapters detected

BUT my adapter (mob rad X2300) IS listed in their release notes! Now guys, i REALLY appreciate your help!

Well, as far, as I can see, it was (since installed via pacman, removed via pacman)...

First time posting!! I have been using arch for 2-3 months now and I love it!

I have the same problem on my inspiron 6400 (laptop) with a ATI radeon x1400 mobility. I never installed compiz on the current installation! (x86_64)

AMD/ATi Catalyst no longer supports R500-series and older cards since about 9.4.

As if i wouldn't know it.

Once again, my adapter is listed in their fucking release notes and does not work! What I need is a competent answer from someone with similar problems and a solution (maybe).

Sorry, I misread the model number.  Have you tried the leaked driver?  It does not need any patches.

Well, made a package of that leaked one, installed it and what do you guess I've got?
YEAH:
No supported adapters detected

Fuck that motherfucking ATI, they are just bullshitting us!! As I said, yes, formally my adapter is in that R500 series, but it's a moblility ones from the late 2007 and it is listed in their shitty release notes!

I have no words anymore...

P.S.: please excuse my language.

Re: [Proven => NO SOLUTION KNOWN!] Install Catalyst 9.7 on mobility X2300

I think that your card is not in the R6xx specifications.

Look here: http://ati.amd.com/products/mobilityrad … specs.html

The regular HD2xxx radeons have unified shaders and support (in Windows) Shader Model 4.x. The previous family (R5xx) supported Shader Model 3.x and had pixel and vertex processors, like your card (except the fact that it has a HD2xxx name)

I think that you card will have no luck with catalyst (fglrx) :-/

Yes, you are right and I am aware of it, and I know about my card having non-unified shader support and not being among those fancy HD(xxxx) = (R600+)...

But let's face the situation on Windows: I can't install those latest Catalyst's (9.4-...) on Windows too, but ATI has released updated Catalyst 9.3.1, targeting those older cards, simultaneous to Catalyst 9.7, targeting the newer models.

Since Linux drivers are notorious lacking proper ATI support and there is no differentiation between (legacy) 9.3.1 and 9.7 here, as it taking place on Windows, and exactly my mobility x2300 is listed in their latest 9.7 Linux release notes, so, putting these facts together, I presumed that my card should work with catalyst 9.7 on Linux.

My additional assumtion was, OK, on Windows they can tell you to use the "legacy" driver, but on Linux with it's continuously changing kernel and Xorg, it's just not possible (since Linux Catalyst 9.3 only supports Xserver <= 1.5 and kernel <= 2.6.29) but as I see, ATI doesn't give a damn fuck...

If someone of you, guys, manages to solve that ridiculous ATI-Catalyst problem on that (or similar) adapter or, if you have any ideas for a workaround, PLEASE let me and my fellow sufferers know.

I wish you a good night!
Over and out.

Re: [Proven => NO SOLUTION KNOWN!] Install Catalyst 9.7 on mobility X2300

[UPDATE]

For all of you, who might be interested in a solution - bad news:

I tried installing normal Catalyst 9.7 on Arch, leaked ATi-driver on Arch using PKGBUILD, and even those original leaked .deb's on Ubuntu 9.04.
Same sad result. sad

I don't believe anymore, there is a fix for that problem. I think, I'm gonna give up that crap and rollback to xf86-video-ati-git, since it was a bit faster on my card  than xf86-video-radeonhd-git.
