lenovo w500 help!

ive been useing arch for only a month or so now, and i freakin love it, but there a FEW things that irk me,
i have a lenovo w500, with a ATI FireGl5700, (or so my recipt says), or is it a mobile radeon 3650? (like my lspci says) or is it a FirePro 5700 cuz there is no mention of a FireGl 5700 (theres a 5600) in the ati drivers section of AMDs website,
well i come to you oh gurus of the kernel to ask what i should do! i did applied a xorg patch and installed the catalyst drivers, and everything renders fine, i have compiz going at full throttle and it looks amazing, but video playback is horrid!! and running games under wine never works, (even when the games run for my friends who also are running arch)
so i ask you what can i do about my graphics card? is ati going to release something soon? do i have the wrong drivers? (lspci says 3650, recipt says firegl5700 ati says firepro5700??) or am i just cursed with a "highend" laptop wiht a horrible card sad
--devoted arch user, and recent windows convert, twek

Re: lenovo w500 help!

Welcome to the forum twek!

1. [quota]"video playback is horrid"[\quota] <- What does it mean by you exactly ?

2. [quota]"running games under wine never works,"[\quota] <- Is there any error message?

We can't do anything with that sentences, it can't work.

Re: lenovo w500 help!

the video play back is choppy at best unless the vlc window is extremly small, and no error messages that i can find, i go to start counter strike (it installs jsut fine in steam) and nothing happens

Re: lenovo w500 help!

Not sure about the w500, but my t500 has both integrated and discrete graphics. If you go into the BIOS menu, you can tell the BIOS which one to use. (The default is acutally "both, let the OS choose", which Windows supports, but Linux doesn't.... at least without significant effort on your part).

Re: lenovo w500 help!

Doesn't matter much to me because
(a) I don't need fancy graphics (e.g. don't play games)
(b) Drivers have not been a problem for me w/ either setup
