Hi,
Whenever I try to load any modules, I get the following message
[root@sony_vaio ~]# modprobe usblp
WARNING: /etc/modprobe.conf line 1: ignoring bad line starting with 'Options'
WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/.
What does this mean?
Cheers

Do you have a modprobe.conf.pacnew file by any chance?

Not in /etc. Theres a modprobe.conf file and a modprobe.d directory.

Read the frontpage news about the module-init-tools upgrade please . Also, reading the message printed on your screen and pasted by you in this topic, and acting accordingly, wouldn't hurt .

Sorry, I am an absolute beginner. I did realise that the message meant I needed to change something, but was not sure how to go about it. Also the modprobe.conf file on my system contains just one line
[root@sony_vaio etc]# cat modprobe.conf
Options snd_pcsp index=2
Do I just move the file from /etc to /etc/modprobe.d ?
Apologies again if this is a stupid question?

Yes, I did. Just wanted to make sure that I just moved that file to the sub directory rather than create / download a new one.
Thank you all for you patience.

I have moved the modprobe.conf file from /etc to /etc/modprobe.d ( as per my interpretation of the newsletter). However I am now getting the following message, when I am trying to load modules
[samsom@sony_vaio modprobe.d]$ modprobe acpi-cpufreq
WARNING: /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf line 1: ignoring bad line starting with 'Options'

Maybe try commenting out that first line, then run it again?
