problem dovecot-1.2.1

hi,
in arch-64 I use dovecot..... but from last upgrade I have error:

:: Starting Dovecot       [BUSY]
Error: Error in configuration file /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf line 90: Unknown setting: ssl_disable
Fatal: Invalid configuration in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf

if I downgrade to dovecot-1.1.17-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
all work OK

Re: problem dovecot-1.2.1

Maybe that settings is deprecated, or the form of it was changed.

Could you take a diff between the older and new configuration ? What happens if you uncomment that line ?

Re: problem dovecot-1.2.1

This error happened to me too.  You have to change the line ssl_disable = yes to ssl = no

See http://wiki.dovecot.org/Upgrading/1.2

Re: problem dovecot-1.2.1

New versions should also give you new /etc/dovecot/dovecot-example.conf files. If you have these errors just parse the example file to find the line you're looking for. I did this as soon as I got the error.

Re: problem dovecot-1.2.1

The SSL setting is simply a change in sytax you can see in the dovecot.example.conf
Anyway dovecot-1.2.1-1 has some problems. I can not modify, create or erase IMAP folders. I also can not change the subribed folders. Downgrading to dovecot-1.1.17-1 solves the problem.

jcci, please check the changelogs. I expect 1.2.3 today or tomorrow. In my setup I can create new subfolders. Haven't tried a new top IMAP folder.

Re: problem dovecot-1.2.1

You are right! I do have another mailserver without problems using dovecot-1.2.1-1. However, on my main server there are such problems and I already replaced the dovecot.conf by a new one based on the provided default file, but without success.
Just by checking the "Upgrading Dovecot v1.1 to v1.2" documentation I can not find the problem.

Re: problem dovecot-1.2.1

Sorry I have to pick up this issue again.
It is still true that regardless of the mail client no user can modify, move, delete or subscribe an imap folder with Dovecot >1.2.1 (meanwhile 1.2.5). Dovecot apperantly have some dotlock problems:
(From dovecot.log)
Oct 02 14:58:19 IMAP(jcci): Error: fchown(/candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir/subscriptions.lock, -1, 0(root)) failed: Operation not permitted (egid=1003(management), group based on /candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir)
Oct 02 14:58:19 IMAP(jcci): Error: file_dotlock_open() failed with subscription file /candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir/subscriptions: Operation not permitted
Oct 02 14:58:20 IMAP(jcci): Error: fchown(/candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir/subscriptions.lock, -1, 0(root)) failed: Operation not permitted (egid=1003(management), group based on /candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir)

Oct 02 14:58:20 IMAP(jcci): Error: file_dotlock_open() failed with subscription file /candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir/subscriptions: Operation not permitted
Oct 02 14:58:21 IMAP(jcci): Error: fchown(/candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir/subscriptions.lock, -1, 0(root)) failed: Operation not permitted (egid=1003(management), group based on /candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir)
Oct 02 14:58:21 IMAP(jcci): Error: file_dotlock_open() failed with subscription file /candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir/subscriptions: Operation not permitted
Oct 02 14:58:21 IMAP(jcci): Error: fchown(/candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir/subscriptions.lock, -1, 0(root)) failed: Operation not permitted (egid=1003(management), group based on /candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir)
Oct 02 14:58:21 IMAP(jcci): Error: file_dotlock_open() failed with subscription file /candeias/home/jcci/.mail/Maildir/subscriptions: Operation not permitted

This was an attemt of changing a subscription.
Another weird point: I can create an IMAP folder although it does not show up in the folder list. But the new folder is in the subscription list, just markes as unsubscribed and there is no way to change that. This porblem is safely reproducable and I wonder whether I should be really the only person having this trouble.
I'm using MAILDIR and simple plain test authentification (internal mail server).
The location is mail_location: maildir:~/.mail/Maildir which means a subfolder in each user's home directory.
All homes are exported to NFS, but the Dovecot is just on the same server and thus accesses locally.
It would be really great if somebody could understand the cause and suggest a solution!

Re: problem dovecot-1.2.1

Mystery solved by an incredibly quick help from the Dovecot mailing list:
The MAILDIR user rights were wrong:

The Maildir permissions are wrong. Either it shouldn't be owned by
group root (but by management), or its mode should be 0700.
