Deciding to take the plunge?

I've installed arch under virtualbox at least 5 times and I can install it flawlessly now. But I'm noticing font problems with gnome, also, does any one have a guide with some customization tips because the default theme is pretty ugly imo

Re: Deciding to take the plunge?

Did you install ttf-ms-fonts, ttf-bitsream-vera and ttf-dejavu packages?

Re: Deciding to take the plunge?

Well it's not installed on my system yet, nor in virtualbox..I think I'll try it in virtualbox one more time and install the font packages then I'll be ready

Re: Deciding to take the plunge?

Also, I want to install arch first over my entire system then install windows on about a 100-125 gb partition. Could I just put in my gparted cd and make an unallocated/ntfs partition, install windows on that then put in my arch cd and choose install bootloader so then grub will be re-installed with windows on the list?

Re: Deciding to take the plunge?

Why not install windows first and then arch and save yourself the hassle? Obviously you can reinstall grub using the live-cd. But what's the point?

Re: Deciding to take the plunge?

Well imo it's easier to just do a full install of arch, install windows, re-install grub

Telling people that your "terminal isn't working" without giving more information isn't going to help you find a solution.

Re: Deciding to take the plunge?

I go to applications>accessories> root terminal, put in my password and nothing happens

Gnome's root terminal is somehow bugged: open a normal terminal and become root with "su -"
