KDE Only in Safe mode after upgrade [CLOSED - not solved -]

Yesterday I run a  pacman -Syu. Everything seemed OK but after reboot my KDE desktop does not load.
This is the sequence:
1. I cold boot
2. It loads and runs the POST and module loading etc. just fine
3. Stops at the log in screen
4. I log in and starts to load the KDE system
5. It HARD FREEZES when loading the desktop (the 4th icon in the splash KDE screen)

I deleted .kde and .kde4 directories and .ICEauthority (which in the past had given me some trouble, in another system, locking the desktop at boot) but to no avail.
I created a new user (to see if the problem was related to my account) but same problem.
I can use openbox just fine, so it has nothing to do with the OS at all, since the problem is confined to KDE.

I also downgraded the KDE packages from the last update but to no avail either.

Any one having similar problems? Any ideas as to where to go from here?

R.

Re: KDE Only in Safe mode after upgrade [CLOSED - not solved -]

Update:
No solution yet. I downgraded the kernel, since in the KDE forum someone suggested that some kernel modules could affect KDE. Since I had also done a kernel upgraded I tried that too, but no joy. sad
