Acer Aspire One D250... no LAN/wifi

Hey guys,

I just bought an AAO D250 (10 inch) the other day and tried installing Arch an hour or two ago. The install itself went flawlessly and I had a bootable installation in about 10 minutes. The problem is that I can't get the ethernet or wireless to work. I tried installing the other kernel module version as detailed here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ace … One_AOD150, but was unable to find [459]AR813X-linux-v1.0.0.9.tar.gz at the site. They have upgraded to 1.0.0.10; I tried installing that but my ethernet/wifi still won't work. Without those I am sort of stuck...

Help?:(

Maybe try the wiki above, your wired connection should work anyway. Did it work when you where installing it ?

Use module r8169 for eth0 support with kernel version >=2.6.26.
If you have problems with r8169 (unlikely), try r8101.

Try modprobe module-r8169  and start the network deamon

Re: Acer Aspire One D250... no LAN/wifi

What do you mean by 'won't work' ? What's the output of 'sudo dhcpcd eth0' (while a network cable is plugged in)?

Never mind guys; I hunted down the proper version of the driver and got it installed. Thanks anyway!

Re: Acer Aspire One D250... no LAN/wifi

steevols where did you find the driver?
I have been looking for a solution to this for quite sometime.
Right now I have been running Ubuntu since it at leasts detects the wireless on my D250.
It would be great if this solved my problems and I could run arch.

Thanks

Re: Acer Aspire One D250... no LAN/wifi

can someone post their steps to get this ethernet card working.

I have downloaded the AR813X driver and tried compiling, however I would receive an error during the compile process, and would therefore not get the ko module. I then found a link that specified a modification to the IRQ_HANDLED & IRQ_NONE lines of kcompat.h, which has since allowed me to compile the driver and load it. However, once this is complete, when I try to load dhcpcd to connect it times out. If I then run ifconfig it shows a large number of packets being sent, dropped, errors, and overruns. Not sure where else to go from here.

Any help would be much appreciated.

-Look for the driver on AUR
- Don't post a guide to install here , make a wiki page.

Re: Acer Aspire One D250... no LAN/wifi

Gosh, I've been off the forums for a bit with college starting again...

I used the Linux Family Driver from http://partner.atheros.com/Drivers.aspx (AR81Family-linux-v1.0.0.10.tar.gz specifically) and followed the wiki instructions for building it. I can't find the wiki article I used, but if I remember right I just built the module and installed it like any other. After that and a reboot, my wifi worked fine.

Re: Acer Aspire One D250... no LAN/wifi

thanks for the reply steevols, but my problem is with the ethernet port. My wireless works 100% without any additional modules.

Oh... no idea. I don't remember having any issues with my ethernet, but I set up most of that stuff around 3 in the morning and don't remember too much of it to start with.

Re: Acer Aspire One D250... no LAN/wifi

Hi guys,

Having lots of problems with my wired network card. Cant compile the one from the Acer website because i get a ton of build errors.

Also when i run lspci my wired network card doesnt even shows up....

Anyone else running into these issues?

Base-devel package group is installed, running as root, and the wired works under windows. Let me know if you need more info.

Re: Acer Aspire One D250... no LAN/wifi

kirothi,  I still have no solution to this. If you read my previous posts you will see that I got past the compile errors by modifying the kcompact.h source file, however I still could not get the port to function after loading the module. My solution now is to use a spare usb ethernet adapter that I had lying around when I can't use wireless.
