fsck wiped my /etc/

I recently checked my root partition to get rid of these "stale nfs file handles" with
fsck -af.
The file handles were deleted but my whole /etc directory got split up in the lost+found dir.
My lost+found dir looks like this

D012290.RCN D013090.RCN D024090.RCN
D053350.RCN D034560.RCN D032590.RCN
... ... ...

there are about 50 directorys 100 files and a bunch of archives too, everything with weird numbers and the .RCN extension.
So my question is if anyone can upload his /etc directory, so that I can replace the important files, such as rc.conf, xorg.conf etc.
Or does anybody know if it is possible to restore the data automatically from the lost+found folder?

Re: fsck wiped my /etc/

Hello xOrg!

Which filesystem do you use? I use generally reiserfs, and in last case with rebuild the tree with fsck is okay, but I think you don't use reiserfs, but ext journaling filesystem or similars. Maybe it's a harder way.

Don't you have any backup from your previous etc ? In last case you can copy it from livecd, and reinstall the installed packages.

Re: fsck wiped my /etc/

Okay, and you can give a try to reiserfs too, i suggest it.
