RAM problem

Hello!I've just bought a new 1gb ddr RAM.Previously i was using 512 + 256 RAM and everything was correct. Now I'm using 512 + 1gb and it should be 1.5 but the linux detects only 883 mb of RAM.However when i switch back to windows everything is fine..Where could be the problem?

Re: RAM problem

Hello Insane-Boy!

How did you detect 883mb, with free or cat /proc/meminfo ?

Is there any relevant log information in syslog ?

Re: RAM problem

1) check first BIOS otherwise it does not matter what software will you use to detect RAM
2) 883MB detectable RAM is default for kernels not using PAE, so you may need to look at your kernel
3) if the above is set as expected, then you should use diagnostic software,  not the other way around
