GNOME: Alt key stops working when last window is closed

I've just switched over to Arch and got a reasonably minimal Gnome desktop, but have noticed a strange issue. I use Ctrl-Alt-Cursorkey to switch around desktops, and Alt-Tab to switch around between windows. Generally, this works well.

However, I've noticed that if I close the last application in a workspace, then the Alt key stops working, so I can't use the keyboard shortcut to switch to another workspace. This seems to be true regardless of what the app is. If I use the 'workspace switcher' applet and manually change workspace, it mysteriously starts working again. Similarly, if I open another window from the gnome menu, then it starts working again.

Anyone know what this might be?

Hello Growse!

Is it a quick workaround to run a minimal app in the background ?
Did you try to reinstall gnome ?

Re: GNOME: Alt key stops working when last window is closed

Interestingly, having a minimized app makes no difference - the Alt key stops working when the last visible window is dismissed.

I've not reinstalled Gnome yet, but will give that a try.
