Currently I'm stuck on KDEMod 4.2.4 due to the split packaging the Arch devs did. Anyway, I've read that the KDEMod developers have recompiled their i686 packages, so I was wondering if I should wait until they place the i686 packages into kdemod-core, uninstall KDEMod 4.2.4 then install KDE 4.3.0, or just use the kdemod-testing repos?

What do you want to do is more the question? Also, how patient are you?
Since you can have a minimal install of either one now, the only real important qiuestions separating KDEMod from Extra-KDE are those 2.

Well, I'm sort of impatient (I was expecting 4.3.0 to come out last Tuesday and they still haven't copied the i686 packages to core). I also know that I'll have to grab a few things from the AUR, which isn't a problem for me since I've already got a few apps installed from there (the plasmoids though I got from kdemod-extra).
I'm hoping to get to 4.3 as soon as possible w/o barfing up the system.
By the way, how's 4.3 working for you?

Extra-KDE is working great...there are a few things that I'm not sure if they are "bugs" or "features" though. The upgrade goes smooth-so long as you do it from Pacman-NOT from Shaman. I kept Shaman on my system (until Pacman 3.3.0 broke it) with ExtraKDE4.2, and I did the -Syu to 4.3 through it...the upgrade scripts failed, and I had to pacman -Syu in the terminal to complete the upgrade install of packages.
But.
Moving my system from KDEMod to Extra-KDE about a month ago was not fun...and I ended up reinstalling Arch in the process as after uninstalling KDEMod and installing Extra-KDE, I could not get X to start, it was faster just to wipe Arch and start over. Fortunately I keep 3 or 4 backups of everything. I figured the night of moving over, it would be relatively fast and painless-it wasn't for me. YMMV of course.

Igh, I wonder if any previous KDEMod users had to reinstall after moving from KDEMod to normal KDE.

well the one in [extra] seems to be running fine, although with 4.2 i was using KDEmod instead of [extra]. At least 4.3 is way better then 4.2. I never could really get what was so different about KDEmod over KDE apart from the split packages. I know they do their own customizations and i read they implement patches over vanilla KDE, but I never noticed what those might be, or perhaps i just have not encountered the bugs they fix. Or are there other differences i am missing here?

Upgrade finished The Shutdown fade effect doesn't fade though. Otherwise, it's great! I still wonder why the background of the plasmoid input boxes aren't the same color as my QtCurve input boxes.

Did you upgrade KDEMod, or switched over to Extra/KDE?

I switched from kdemod4.2.4 to kde4.3 from extra
I did it just by uninstalling every kdemod and qt package and then installing every kde4.3 package I wanted.
I love kde4.3 from extra! Is it better than kdemod4.3? don't know but I like it better than kdemod4.2 .
It feels cleaner and faster.

And all patches are here: /usr/share/kdemod/patches
