limit internet access

Hello

I was wondering if there is a simple way to limit internet access from a linux box only to a certain specified and protected list of websites.

It would be MOST appreciated!

Re: limit internet access

You could set up a localhost proxy (Squid, for example) and then configure your web browser to use it.

A proxy would work.

Re: limit internet access

squid is ridiculously difficult to implement (at least for a newbie) - I am amazed that something like URL filtering is so freaking difficult to implement

Re: limit internet access

Squid is difficult only when you try to tinker with all the knobs at start wink -- sure, it's complicated machine, but the defaults are sane and working; AFAIR the only thing you have to play with are ACLs and http_access rules -- and you have to set them anyway to achieve your objective.

There is a chance iptables will do, depending on sites in question; if none of them resides on shared server...
