Hey,
So I get this error when attempting to open the Pulse volume control:
$ pavucontrol
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Gtk::IconThemeError'
Aborted
I am running KDE and I have the Gnome icon theme package installed (which fixed this error in other applications). I use the gtk-qt-engine, too and am currently using QtCurve in both QT and GTK.
Compiling directly from the source doesn't make the error go away, either.
Thanks

Hello Kalinda!
Maybe some related threads:

Did it work earlier or is it a fresh install ?

The install is fresh; I just started messing with Pulse a couple hours ago. It just never worked. The first time I ran it it opened for a second and then disappeared. So I ran it in the command line and got that error.

I had this problem a little while ago. No clue what fixed it (I did a re-install for other reasons), but your problem may be related to this problem I fixed: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=77229
Install the GNOME, Hicolor, and Tango icon themes, and then try making one the default like I mentioned.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I tried it and it still gives me the error
It seems this program is very Gnome dependent, despite claiming otherwise.

Which kernel/driver do you use ? Is there problem with pavucontrol only or with other applications too ?

I've got kernel 2.6.30 and am using the CA0106 ALSA driver for my Creative SBLive Audigy sound card. I've also got a Logitech wireless headset, but I don't know what driver it's using since when I put in aplay -L all I get for it is "Headset". Pulse audio sees them both and even created a combined module to use both at once, although I've no idea how to actually use it.
The only Pulse app that gives me this error is pavucontrol, yes. Although attempting to open padevchooser gives me this error: ** (padevchooser:20694): WARNING **: pa_browser_new() failed.
But I'll look into that separately.
It was suggested to me that perhaps I file a bug report for pavucontrol....
ETA: I fixed the error relating to padevchooser and it opens now (I needed to have the avahi-daemon started).
