failure at package install section, (invalid or corrupted package)

I'm trying to install through the core 2009.8 img
on an Asus EEE, old model.
md5sum checks out
I log in as root, go through the install process,
I adjust the file system partition to 3000MB, there is about 460MB left for /home, sometimes there's a problem partitioning the drive[auto mode] other times,
there's a problem installing the packages,

...
Total Download Size: 0.00 MB
Total Installed Size: 522.80 MB

Proceed with installation? [Y/n]
checking package integrity...

mpfr-2.4.1-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz is invalid or corupted
Errors occured, no packages were upgraded.

Package Installation Complete. //all faithfully hand copied by the way

The setup program will continue on to blindly run itself into the ground.
I believe I've tried this all before with the same result.

@Dieter@be
I voted. Difference here is I was using a core install, not using the net at all, should I look for that bug report and vote it too?

Re: failure at package install section, (invalid or corrupted package)

well, the problem seems to be twofold here:
1) when package installation fails, aif doesn't notice and continues, and breaks later.  this is the problem in the ticket
2) you have a corrupted package even though you are using the packages on the core cd.  You verified the md5sum of the burned cd?  Maybe your ram is broken or something because I don't see how this could happen otherwise.

Re: failure at package install section, (invalid or corrupted package)

I've been running memtest86 for about 1.5 hours, I suppose it's passed thrice, the pass field is now displaying 3. The error field is 0.
So that's an enigma.
Hmm..
