I'm not really sure where to look for this... Pidgin keeps starting up automatically, and I don't want it to. I don't have it anywhere in my Startup Applications Preferences, and there's nothing related to it in ~/.config/autostart, .xinitrc, or rc.local... what am I missing???

There is another tab in "Startup Applications" window, where you choose (a checkbox) if you want Gnome to remember applications at the shutdown.

Check the "~/.config/gnome-session/saved-session" directory for needless applications. Gnome seems to not clean it up when you uncheck the checkbox "Automatically remember running applications when logging out."
