Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

just add farsight2 to dependency and change pkgver to 2.6.1

edit: also don't forget to install optdepends from farsight2. they are needed

Yep, recompiling with farsight2 installed helps. How do I inform the devs?

Make sure you've updated the PKGBUILD version. My abs returned 2.5.8 instead of 2.6.1.

Basically, first install farsight2, then update the version to 2.6.1 and run makepkg. Its working here.

Did you try reinstall this one or the simple one -> extra/gstreamer0.10-base ?

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

farsight is a community pkg and extra packages can't depend on it. we might think about removing it in when it's really helpful and stable.
so far gstreamer0.10 was enough i think. it always depends on your system what kind of gst subpkg you will need for your codecs and hardware.

btw: i'm only doing the updates because the origin pkg maintainer is away for weeks now.

So far, but farsight2 is now needed for the voice/video. Which is, I believe, the main point for this new release. But its okay if this can't be put in extra, not too hard to do our own PKGBUILD anyway.

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

Ok... I tried it by compiling my own version of pidgin. So far, voice seems to be working, but only when I call people. When people call me, I click accept and nothing happens afterwards. Video doesn't work at all. When initiating a video call, it pops for half a second and then dissappears again. When people video call me the dialog will popup but nothing happens, nothing gets connected.

<rant>It's probably me, but I've tried the farsight / gstreamer stuff in the past, but if it doesn't work, or you don't have a certain library, it will just silently fail and not give you any error message on what happened or what's missing.</rant>

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

I added farsight2 as a dependency and the optdepends as well from the PKGBUILD in the ABS.  but AV doesn't seem to work.. the call dialog box pops up, call gets established and i dont hear/see anything.. after a while the call terminates by itself

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

I have installed from modified PKGBUILD and I have had great success in pidgin to pidgin google talk audio connections (haven't had any problems yet in prolonged communication). I have not tested it with video or with anyone having an official google talk client yet.

so far the expeirences don't look like a stable really useful feature. let's wait a bit. tell us when it's really usable and drop me mail then or add the (next) bugtracker a feature request.

Re: Pidgin 2.6 has voice and video support YEAH!!!

I compiled it from ABS with video-voice support. I get the "Audio Call" and "Video Call" options in the menu, but they do nothing when I click on them. Also, if a friend calls me with audio/video, I get a separate window with the option to accept the call, which I do, but I get no audio/video :-\ I'm on x86_64.
