[SOLVED]xstart works exclusively as root

I had this happen multiple times, on different installs.
When using startx, it only works as root.
There doesn't seem to be any problems in the xorg log, either.

Welcome to the forum, democracy!

Has the $(which startx) got the right permission for user, is it executable ? What's the exact error output when you try to start as a normal user ?

Thanks!
There is no output.
How do I determine the permissions?

Re: [SOLVED]xstart works exclusively as root

And after doing so - which resolved the problem, I find that every program has lost it's root config.
How do I find those configurations?
