Need help with dual boot grub wont load!

I have a laptop that I first installed Vista x64 on. It has one 320gb hd. Vista x64 is on /dev/sda1. I then installed arch via net iso. I made seperate partitions for /boot, /, /home, and swap. I followed the instructions in the beginners guide and this guide: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Win … _Dual_Boot. I installed GRUB to /boot but when I restarted it just goes right to windows.

From the wiki: "make sure to install grub to /boot"

What commands did you use?

Re: Need help with dual boot grub wont load!

i installed it to boot from the installer menu it asked where i wanted to put it and i selected /dev/sda2 which is where /boot is. i figured it out i think. i either need to just install grub to the mbr or make an entry in vistas bootloader to boot into grub.

Re: Need help with dual boot grub wont load!

If grub is installed to sda2 then you need to run cfdisk and set the boot flag to sda2 (it's probably set to sda1 - windows).

If that doesn't work, install grub to "mbr". Can Vista's boot loader boot linux? I don't know.

It appears the wiki is wrong...

No (I don't THINK - the last M$ O/S I used couldn't), but the opposite (used) to work - grub can boot Vista fine (presuming it sees it, which should be a no-brainer).
I 2nd "install grub to *mbr*."
