cups unable to print light fonts

this is not Arch problem but maybe someone have clue how to fix this:
CUPS (or Openoffice) is unable to print specific weight of the font. Openoffice font menu says that the same font is going to be used on both printer and screen.

examples:
Verlag XLight
Verlag Light
Versa 3

I tried to use Phaser6250, HP6840, Epson Stylus
So the problem is not related to the specific driver but rather to CUPS inablity to handle certain font weights. These fonts work on OS X and Vista. Both examples are high quality PS fonts from Hoefler & Frere-Jones and Peter Verheul so it seems like there is nothing wrong with fonts but something wrong with linux printing system or OpenOffice

thanks

Re: cups unable to print light fonts

Hello broch!

First of all you can ask from the author too, if you think so it's cups related problem.

Did you try it with other distribution, other kernel, and on other PC? Does every other fonts work fine ? Does it occur in every font size, style ? Is the cups configuration/setting fine in fact ?

Re: cups unable to print light fonts

I narrowed this down to the app (e.g. Openoffice) not being able to handle the way some were designed. This does not affect other OSes and apps. Scribus for linux can hadle these fonts.
