Need to access a Windows Share?!

Hi,
Just migrated my Wife! big_smile Well, took her Windows XP computer and installed Archlinux.
Got everything to work, flash, java and so one BUT I can't access our Media server.

We have a Windows Server hosting a bunch of Videos, Music and Pictures and the thing my wife wants the most is access to the Photo Archive...oops...

Its a simple share. I had a loginscript mapping drive z: to the photo folder (net use z: \\192.168.0.1\media\photos)

How can I do this in arch?

First of all I need to be able to browse shared windows folders. Samba? is it hard to get it up and runnig?
Second I would like to make a shortcut or something so she can access them easy...

Please help me out! smile

Re: Need to access a Windows Share?!

Install smbclient (pacman -S smbclient)  then if you are using gnome just open a new file browser window and you should be able to navigate to the machine through the network section.  or type in smb://192.168.0.1/media/photos/ and access it direct.  Easy smile

Re: Need to access a Windows Share?!

Last time I used Thunar, there was no support for browsing smb shares, or other remote filesystems. XFCE didn't have any virtual filesystem layer for that kind of functionality, however the developers were thinking about implementing something similar. Even if you can't find any XFCE-specific solution, you can still use the fstab file as described here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sam … mba_Shares

fstab is the way to go , it automactily mounts the share at boot, be aware to store your password somewhere save
