MPlayer from repo, but with own x264?

I can compile x264 perfectly fine, but I can't get MPlayer from repo to detect and use that version instead of the one that it installs by default in the repo. Is there a certain directory I should make install x264 to? I guess I could just keep a separate self compiled version by only doing a make on it and not a make install.

Re: MPlayer from repo, but with own x264?

x264 from git is currently at so.72 and the version in the repos is at so.67. There has been a number of changes in x264's public API lately. This is why the Mplayer from the repos can't see it. I think that your best bet is to rebuild Mplayer whenever x264 has a so bump.
