Acer 5738G Laptop web camera

In Acer Aspire 5738G laptop (Graphics card: nvidia G105M) the web cam (crystal eye) detection is not consistent between reboots. ie some times gets detected and when using vlc / cheese the system freezes and requires hard reboot. I tried removing and adding the module (uvcvideo) but of no fruitful result. Hope some one might have solved this and pl post your solution.

What's in your syslog/xorglog/errorlog/stderr while vlc/cheese freezing your system ? Can this cam work in other distribution or under livecd ? Which kernel/driver/ X version do you use ?

dmesg shows it detected the webcam. Error logs shows nothing. System is up to date.

Edit 1: with ubuntu 9.04 live CD webcam is working normal (same dmesg)

Can the webcam work with other application, does it freeze with vlc/cheese only or not ? Do you use the same version on ubuntu like in arch ?

djszapi, hope you did not read my post correctly. Arch system is up to date and I tried with Ubuntu netmix CD (ubuntu 9.04) Ubuntu 9.04 live CD did not come with either cheese nor vlc. I did not have any other application other than vlc / cheese. dmesg detects the web cam and shooting the said applications make the system total freeze that even key board won't work what ever the key pressed.

Log files did not reveal anything about the hanging.

cheese -v case also the same. It brings the window with the image in its front and the system got freezes.

Edit 1:For a try, I installed ubuntu 9.04 (Kernel 2.6.28.15 ) with nvidia property driver (ver 180.44). The behaviour is the same ie system freezes.
