[SOLVED itself] Hal/hotplugging + wacom tablet: stylus only?

UPDATE: The newest hal, newest udev, newest stable linuxwacom 0.8.4-2 (+ using the provided script after installing/updating), newest xorg, system in general -- I'm not sure what did the trick, but it's working now. After an eternity of screwing with it. Woot! FYI, I'm using the Testing repo. I'm not sure if things are currently working in just the regular repos. If I remember within the next couple days, I will try that out on my laptop and take a look, and update this accordingly. EDIT: Works fine in the normal repos afaict too. big_smile

Short:

HELP! I've tried everything I can bloody think of to make HAL/Udev/Whatever pick up more than just the wacom tablet's stylus (eraser, side buttons, etc). This was apparently fixed in a newer driver, but it's still not working (but only on Arch) even using Ubuntu's "working" driver. Do I need to patch something else? If so, with what?

Long:

Hello. I've been maintaining wacom-utility in AUR for a while, but about a month or two ago it switched to HAL tablet detection/configuration and I've been unable to update the package because HAL does not seem to function properly. I've tried for weeks spending hours on end to make HAL pick up more than just the stylus, to no avail. I have gotten everything about the tablet to work in xorg.conf manually, BUT that's not an option; it makes this GUI utility (which *works* on ubuntu 9.04 with similar packages without xorg.conf stuff afaik) useless and won't work for everyone installing that package. I am trying to keep an easy utility for my sister to use on her desktop & laptop.

According to several sources I've found, this should be working as of linuxwacom 0.8.2.2 or whatnot, as it was patched in the wacom-tools ubuntu packages a long time ago, which is the same as linuxwacom/linuxwacom-dev in AUR. Just to be sure though, I packaged the ubuntu wacom-tools source + their patches for Arch to the best of my ability and STILL had absolutely zero luck. The wacom-utility dev suggested looking at "xinput --list", which is supposed to show everything. However, like in wacom-utility running on HAL, only the stylus showed up there. Configured in xorg, it works properly and so does the old version of wacom-utility, as expected.

Have I looked over something stupid? Why doesn't it work? Do I need to patch hal/udev/linuxwacom somehow further, and where do I get said patch if so? A solution would be greatly appreciated.. if you need any more information, let me know.. I think "only the stylus shows up!" is about the jist of it.. I'm not immune at all to overlooking small details, so bear with me..

Ftr, it's a Wacom Intuos 3.
