I've installed arch with the 0.7beta2 ISO and installed the standard arch kernel26. After some time I have to build my own kernel because I needed a patch to make acpi functioning. After compiling and copying the image to the /boot, canged grub and so on everything the same way as described in the wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ker … ompilation
After rebooting the new kernel and could handle some issues myself I think now that something went terribly wrong because dmesg don't write out normal messages but see yourself:

Yes as I said before not normal in my opinion. Also very funny is that uname -r get out 2.6.9-ARCH but shouldn't it be named to 2.6.9 only because it's not the standard kernel? I must mention that I only downloaded the sources from kernel.org and have now the directories linux-2.6.9 and linux-2.6.9-ARCH in my /usr/src dir but nothing else. I haven't moved something out of the linux-2.6.9-ARCH dir only added the source dir from kernel.org.
I also would like to know how I get the "can't load module hw_random" message on hotplugd start away, it's distempering. I've got this message also when I used the standard kernel.

If you get a lot of errormessages, dmesg gets filled up with them, and the normal bootmessages are replaced by them. It seems you've got a lot of errors about your NIC.
That's probably why dmesg shows "strange" errors.
I'd recompile the kernel and double check all the options to make sure you've got support for your NIC.
If you want to change the name of your kernel, simply edit "Makefile" in /usr/src/linux: the name is located at the beginning of the file.
It's also wise to make a symlink "linux" in /usr/src pointing to the kernel-dir of the current kernel:
ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.6.9 /usr/src/linux
