I have installed OSS using the instructions on the wiki. However, when I started the OSS daemon, my system completely locked up, requiring a hard reset. The only log I could find is /var/log/soundon.log
$ cat /var/log/soundon.log
Open Sound System starting Fri Sep 4 17:30:56 EDT 2009
OSS version: 4.1 (b 1052b/200905261644)
Kernel version: 2.6.30-ARCH
Kernel vermagic: 2.6.30-ARCH SMP preempt mod_unload
OSS vermagic: 2.6.30-ARCH SMP preempt mod_unload
*** Loading OSS kernel modules ***
I tried it a few more times, but each time it froze the system. I don't even know what else I can check. Does anyone have an idea?

Did you install libflashsupport noahsark? Currently I'm not sure that should be in the wiki as oss already has libflashsupport included. If you have installed try removing and starting again.

No, I did not install libflashsupport.

Do you have any OSS Modules in your mkinitcpio image or in rc.conf?

Is it a new install? As far as I know there haven't been any OSS updates recently. I find this quite strange. You don't come acrosss OSS bugs like this very often.
Are you using a custom kernel by any chance (it doesn't look like you are)?

No, there are no OSS modules in mkinitcpio or rc.conf. With alsa, all the modules I need seem to be autoloaded with no problem, so I never bothered with it. I'm using the stock arch kernel, up do date from [core].
It is a relatively new install - only a few weeks old.

I have this same issue. noahsark, do you have the "82801JI (ICH10 Family)" controller (run `lpsci | grep Audio`)? If so, things aren't looking good. The forum of 4Front Technologies (the company behind OSS) has a few posts complaining about this issue, some dated from January of this year. A few developers tried to help, but nothing ever came of it. I tried the most recent source (available as oss-mercurial in AUR), but it has the same problem.

The same thing happened to me when I install the new Archlinux 2 weeks ago.
So I dumped OSSv4, and pick the ALSO back.

Yea, that is my audio controller. Oh well, I guess I'll have to stick with alsa for now. Thanks for letting me know.
