Burning problem

Burning always fails for me. Can't understand why. What log should I check to find out why? I have had this problem for over half a year now. Has something changed/something I need to set up for burning in the last year? There's no problem burning in Ubuntu.

And another strange thing. I'm told that I can't burn 16X, when I know I do. It worked earlier

Re: Burning problem

Also depends on the media, check if they're certified for 16x. If they are, there might be incompatibility problem with the media you bought. Often a firmware update helps.

If you say it works in Ubuntu, do you use the same versions of k3b and cdrkit/cdrtools? Maybe Ubuntu uses cdrtools instead of cdrkit (I think Arch has only official packages of cdrkit and not of cdrtools). You might also want to try to run the burning utility directly (K3b is just a frontend) with the debug flag and see what it spits out. Also, K3b should have logs somewhere (but I don't know where, I'm not very familiar with it).

I hope you are aware burning at max speed increases the possibility of errors and shortens the integrity and lifespan of your data? Of course that's irrelevant when it's just meant for 'immediate consumption' and not for archival tongue.

Re: Burning problem

Arch does have dvd+rw-tools, it says it is "dvd burning tools" and some k3b PKGBUILDS have it has an opdepend to handle dvd-burning.
There is also dvdrtools to support dvd burning maybe you are missing one of those packages.

Re: Burning problem

dvd+rw-tools is installed. I also have problems burning with other apps too. Brasero is for some reason extremely slow and often fails. I had the same hardware earlier with no problems. That's the odd thing.

Re: Burning problem

With Brasero and graveman I could not write any image to CD. With command line cdrecord it is possible. With brasero / graveman when the particular cd/dvd drive selected with fresh cd it asks for a new CD sad .
dmesg shows the following error

sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : 0x5 [current]
Info fld=0x0

(Note : with this error cdrecord does the job fine)
If any one has the same problem then a bug report will be filed.

Re: Burning problem

Exact same issue, with K3B, Nero, Brasero on Arch64. Away from Arch PC right now, so I cannot post any log's/Errors.

Edit: Exact Same issue as Kgas

Edit (2): Solved for me, downgraded my firmware for my HLDS HLDS GS20N 9.5mm Slotload SATA DVDRW from vA110 to vA108. Works perfectly.
