the hardware is a ATI HD3200 (780g IGP)

Quakelive has a problem with the new libpng/libjpeg. You can search the forum for this.
Are you using kms?

so i see, no wonder Quake Live is only messy recently.

i think i'm using it, because i saw the boot screen refreshed when loading the module hook.
udev must have loaded it automatically.
but it won't matter i guess, because the problem has continued from 2.6.32, and 32 has a default of disabling KMS.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

hey people

Im just interested in your Card model, if your using git or repo and what your glxgears fps is

See at the moment, people are reporting seeds all over the shop.. For example I have a HD4630 in my laptop. I get 330fps in glxgears. I also have some games refusing to load. My cousin has HD2640 and most things work well he gets 1100fps in glxgears, he is running all stock (no kms) where as I'm using recently built git code.  Far as I knew both of these cards use the R600/R700 code.. But it would apear that the R600 is more feature complete than the 700?

So yeah.. what you running and what you get?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

This is not comparable. There is a huge difference between KMS and UMS. KMS provides DRI2, OpenGl 2.0 and tear free opengl. UMS does not, but is a lot faster (at the moment).

With a HD4850, UMS, 2.6.33 and the a git snapshot of the rest i get 3k fps.

~2900 fps, hd 4850 512 MB with KMS, compiz running, using perry3D's repo at the moment

Edit: @perry3D I'm not experiencing any slowdowns, compiz running very smoothly and no tearing...

That's strange. Compiz and KMS is also very smooth on my PC. But Kwin seems to have some problems with KMS.

/edit:
With UMS:
- Compiz is fine
- Kwin: no problems
- Nexuiz: no problems
- Warsow: no problems
- QuakeLive (LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/libpng12.so" /usr/bin/firefox www.quakelive.com): looks good, but is unplayable. This worked some time ago sad

KMS: mode setting in kernel space
UMS: mode setting in user space (the "old" way).

Have you given the phoronix test suite a go?

I was surprised at the results in all but the Nexuis test.  Everything else looked great & even though there was plenty of fast action & players involved the HD2600pro never skipped a beat.

These were my (poorly named 1st.phoronix.test; I didn't know they could/would go public when I named it) test results, the page gives you access to info' about the PTS & the download page:

Here:

http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature

It says that KMS is mostly done for all of the ATi GPU series on the list.

So anyway.. I did some testing of UMS. 2100 fps and lots of other things are running more stable.. EXCEPT gnome-shell
it runs like ass had to move back to gnome-panel/compiz anyway interesting things.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

For the interested... Gnome-shell was solely responsible for my 300fps frame rates. Tested KMS without shell and my FPS was around 1000fps.  So currently avoiding shell on the open source ATI stack is not a bad idea.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Perry3D:

In Linus Torvalds' kernel git tree, branch 'drm-linus' of git://git./linux/kernel/git/airlied/drm-2.6 has been merged.
See:http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=03a2c4d76c9e99b80d74ab8a4f344e135a5ae44b

Many recent kernel changes in the drm-next tree now goes into mainline kernel.
Maybe you can update your kernel-git package:-)

/edit: compile errors with the staging drivers. sad I disable them.
OK, everything compiles fine without the staging drivers. The new kernel is in the repo. Happy testing cool

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

It work's. Unfortunately no new sensor was detected for my graphics card (sensors-detect) sad. Should I change some configuration files? or is it because I'm using KMS?
Also if I enable dynpm compiz sometimes stops for a moment... probably while the clocks are adjusted.

Edit: and a slight improvement with glxgears +100/200 FPS (now ~3000) with hd4850 and compiz

Is there support for gpu sensors in 2.6.34? Maybe i need to modify the config file.

I just thought that with power management support will come temperature monitoring, too. Guess I was wrong.
Also while running sensors-detect a few new adapters appeared, but no sensor was detected sad
