Hello,
I've a Dell M4400 and the fan(s) are running all the time, although I only surf the net, code, ...
Now I try to control the fans intstalled lm-sensors and tried to follow the instructions in the wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fan_speed_control
My sensor output:
$ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +43.5°C (crit = +107.0°C)
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0: +38.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
coretemp-isa-0001
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 1: +38.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
According to the WIKI we should see fan RPM if fan is active. Otherwise they suggest editing /etc/sensors.conf.
Unfortunately I only have sensors3.conf.
In the first line of sensors output the chipset should be mentioned but nothing.
How do I now find out the correct chipset, thus I can edit the sensors.conf file??
The first lines of lshw.

Probably the Arch wiki page he linked to....
And learn to use the quote functionality instead of making your own syntax. Some of your replies are very difficult to follow.

Yes, I mean the wiki I linked to.
I'd like to control fan speed but don't get fans displayed with the sensors command.
Maybe it is not possible to contral fans on a Dell M4400 but I don't think so.
pwmconfig shows:
# pwmconfig
# pwmconfig revision 5630 (2009-01-29)
This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm)
controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on
your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm
circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm.
We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls.
The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed
after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you
physically verify that the fans have been to full speed
after the program has completed.
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed
Therefore I think that I have to configure "sensors" correctly but don't know which line in /etc/sensors3.conf.
The online fact sheet of the Dell M4400 shows that the "Intel PW45 Express" Chipset is attached. Unfortuantely I can't find it in the sensors3.conf file.
Thanks for any help!

Has anyboady experiences with Dell, maybe M4400, in such a case?
Thx, clementis
