I installed my Arch Linux system today, and just set up kde mod. When I started X before kdemod, and it worked as expected. I got the TWM with the two (or three?) Xterms. Now, when I start X (with or without kdm), neither keyboard or mouse work. I have no Xorg.conf. I have a Dell inspiron e1505 laptop with integrated intel graphics.
Edited to provide more information and clarify what was written.

I have the same problem. Try to
Xorg -configure
It will generate xorg.conf in /etc/X11, then edit and add
Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off"
in ServerFlags section (add this section if not already there)
Thought that didnt work for me, maybe it will work for you.
Did you install xf86-input-keyboard and xf86-input-mouse?

Hello patrickaupperle!
Did your /etc/rc.conf change ? Does it contain the hal daemon at the daemon section ?

Wow, now I am embarrassed. I could of sworn that I put hal into my /etc/rc.conf file. Oh well, I guess I just started it.
Thank you for sorting that out. I am now posting from a working KDEmod Arch Linux sytem.

Wow, thank you djszapi! That worked! Before I was pressing "reset", since my keyboard was not working. Then I found a very simple solution:
startx & sleep 10; chvt 1
Thanks!
