I installed openjdk6 and it appears to be working, although some apps look terrible. My problem is that it is not working with konqueror. I go to a java site, runescape.com for example, and just get a grey box and a lot of pop ups asking if I want to trust the publisher. Everything works great in firefox. How can I make it work in konqueror?

So I take it that if you click 'trust the publisher' in konqueror it still doesn't work?
Are you running 64-bit arch linux?
Did you install jre or openjdk6, i.e. did you install sun's official java, or the open source version?

I used openjdk6, but now I am trying jre, neither worked. Of course, I clicked allow or whatever. It still did not work. I have tried changing settings all around, still no luck. Thank you for trying to help, though.

You're very welcome. I don't run kde or konqueror, so I'm not sure where else to point you, so just bear in mind I'm only guessing at solutions
Try installing the konq-plugins package, but it's a long shot. Konqueror is clearly recognizing java, which is something. Seems these people have a similar problem to yourself:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=866145
But that thread is a year old, so you are probably just missing something simple I would try some of the stuff suggested there, but no doubt someone else here will post a solution. Are you using kde and if so what version?

Unfortunately, those solutions did not work either.

Have you rebooted since you installed java? That's the only other thing I can think of, sorry I can't be of any more help

Well, rebooting was a good idea. I can't believe I did not think of it myself. Unfortunately, though, it did not work.
Also, at least you are trying to help. Thank you for that much.
Edit: now, the verify java version thing at http://www.java.com:80/en/download/inst … =jre&try=1 detected my java correctly.
Edit2: Now, it is not detecting my java.

Can anyone help?

While I use konqueror and java, I have not updated jre for some time so I cannot confirm if jre is problematic though I honestly doubt it. Firefox uses the java plugin but konqueror runs java itself. Check your konqueror settings and point konqueror to java directly, using the full address. HTH.
*edit* Just checked and it seems that a jre update slipped through (I usually have it ignored). Basically it works for me in konqueror in that java.com says I have it. One java site that I frequent did not work perfectly though and I have downgraded to the older jre (I have a backup).

Well, even with pointing konqueror right at the java, it still won't detect it. I guess that means it is time for me to use opera, at least until an update or something fixes this.
